Friends of Guiding

October 1992 saw the commencement of the BGIFC Friends of Guiding affectionately known in Cyprus as “FOG”. The first meeting was held in the Episkopi Guide Hut and was Chaired by Mrs Ann Dunford, Commissioner for BGIFC and attended by Mrs Daphne Hammond-Doutre  and Mrs Carmilla Fitt. Members celebrated the 20th Birthday at the Kyrenia Beach Bar 2012.

Since its formation it has aimed to raise funds and the image of Girlguiding,  it continues to go from strength to strength and has to date donated well over Sixty Seven Thousand Euros to BGICyp.

The challenges of an ever changing world has never been an obstacle and successive Chairpersons and Members have devised fund raising events to acquire the funds to help send Guide Leaders and the Girls to international training events and camp holidays here in Cyprus and in the UK,  such as the Troodos Camp, Foxlease, Waddow Hall and Nethrurd House thus aiding their development and making them more aware of the worldwide nature of Guiding.  They have also provided necessary equipment and raised funds for the building of the ablutions block at Happy Valley Campsite and assisted at camp holidays, unit meetings, badge testing and managing the Guide Shop.

The newly elected Chairperson Mrs Susan Phillips has taken over the post from Mrs Sarah Rush who held the post for Eight years. We also have a new President Mrs Kerry Huggett wife of the Chief of Staff Cyprus. Kerry herself was a Guide and a Ranger.

FOG will continue to support BGICyp arranging fund raising events with the help of the members and spouses.
